Listening For Wisdom

Lectio Divina is an ancient Christian practice of slow, prayerful reading of Scripture that listens for God’s wisdom to shape your heart and guide your life.

1. READ — Listening Closely to Wisdom

“My son, if you accept my words

and store up my commands within you,

listening closely to wisdom

and directing your heart to understanding;

furthermore, if you call out to insight

and lift your voice to understanding,

if you seek it like silver

and search for it like hidden treasure,

then you will understand the fear of the Lord

and discover the knowledge of God.

For the Lord gives wisdom;

from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”

Read the passage slowly. You may read it more than once.

• What word or short phrase stands out to you?

2. REFLECT — Directing the Heart Toward Understanding listening closely to wisdom and directing your heart to understanding

Reflect on the word or phrase you noticed.

• Why might this word be drawing your attention today?

• What might God be inviting you to notice, receive, or seek?

3. RESPOND — Calling Out for Insight if you call out to insight and lift your voice to understanding if you seek it like silver and search for it like hidden treasure

Turn your reflection into prayer.

• What do you want to say to God in response to this Scripture?

4. REST — Trusting the God Who Gives Wisdom then you will understand the fear of the Lord and discover the knowledge of God

Remain quietly before God.

• What does it look like for you to rest in God’s presence right now?

• What might you need to release or entrust to God?
